Im still hoping that it will go away before I loose interest in STO. SOmeone posted a link to  PWE's ad for ARC. If anyone is still listening to me concerning this, please understand, Cryptic has no say in this, and as shaky as they have been with answering questions on it, you know full well they have no intention of allowing for you to use your own launcher! They will make more money and have better access to you by having an active ARC program in the background grabbing up data on your activities so they can shape how to sell you more of their products...

Heres a response I gave on their promotinal video:

Its a marketing take over, it happens a lot in business. If they can make it to where you are forced to use their system, they eliminate the competition and center your full attention to their needs and setup to make more money and control the whole board (like Obamacare). The people who live for networking, I.E. the people who make money off of it, will have it easier to monitor for their own needs and over see the minions playing. Its why I've been trying so hard to resist. Because monitoring you and taking in data to help then understand what you play and spend on, so to convince you what you will like to spend money on in the future, and bombard you with advertisements, like behavioral study/control only on a business level rather then political. Yes I can see where it makes sense for them, but its an intrusive turn off for me. 2 paws down...and then some!

If you think its just about angry trolling your wrong, im doing this preserve STO for both me and you, it shouldnt be lost in a marketing plaza, STO deseves its own website (Star Trek based!) and it should be linked to other star trek media to get true fans back to the game. As it sits, they are leading us to a mix of fantasy and wargames with thier current added content, that resemble the other games on their license that they are trying to sell you so once your into the change in the game you already play...then they bombard you with their other games that have some similar features, so you will get a feel for things outside of the Trek genre and wanna play those other games too. Checkmate!!

So do you think that STO is in it's death throws? I got into Star Trek online because I was a Trekkie, but now I stay because of the investments that I have made in my Cat characters. I probably would have played ST:Infinite Space if it had survived. I also distinctly remember a game called Empire: Total War, that i was looking forward to, but was immensely disappointed with and intolerant of a little bastard called STEAM. That was a deal killer for Empire.  But ultimately what can we do about the ARC deal?

I didnt become a strong Trek fan until i got into the game, now im hooked...

Well what is going to happen is, STO will have more stuff added to it to take it further from canon and try to get it to resemble the other games most popular features and art, that are on their sell lists. THen they can use the data they collect to determine what you do and buy for the most, that way they can market more games and items in said games to you according to your play style and purchase history. Once you get into another game and they have your attention to something new, you will spend there and all the other games that take your interest, turning them into momentary fads...STO is becoming less Trek and more generic to cater to come and go players, and play to win fans ( please take my money). I would guess, that if treated like that it wouldnt last another 2 or 3 years at the most. If you listen to them on the promo video for ARC, they are buisness nerds trying to use you for a fast buck, STO is just a momentary cash cow, if it falls under or has to be cut its no difference to them, they will move onto the next game and do the same to them until that resource is used up. This is PWE not Cryptic...i wish Cryptic was in charge!

I have been trying to get their attention the best way I know how to, word of mouth warnings for trek fans and kicking em in the pocket book. Im not spending any more on the game until they bring back the website that the people  (me included) wanted for news and purchases, this also goes for the launcher (adware/spyware) they want you to use to open a port to your pc for them...this makes you vulnerable to attacks from hackers and possibly bots. My old pc was infected with down loaders and search bars i never heard of before when i tried for that Khan outfit. No way will it be used on this new gaming machine! I recommend you boycot buying from them and let them know that you are and why, as I did. If we get enough voices out there, the suits may listen to us finally! What ever you do, dont close your account.

As for my future in gaming (crys over STO) I will miss STO once I will no longer be able to login again, but I have Star Wars TOR on my list of mmos and next month once my data resets im going to download and buy Elder Scrolls Online, some pals of mine are beta testing it atm (it looks cool!)...my cat theme will then be a thing of the past. =T.T=

I've had a jump-ship plan for Star Trek Online for a while, it mostly involves the old Star Trek: Starfleet Command games and some modding to partially recreate my ship(s) and crew(s). Ultimately though, when STO goes, star trek dies, it is the last connection to the non-Abrams universe. My long term plan has been to simply create my own universe, thematically similar to Star Trek, featuring only the Caitians, renamed the K'Shnn. The felinoid alien is so generic on Science Fiction that there could be little connection back to Trek, except philosophically. I have little interest in the rubber-face "aliens" anymore, and am largely convinced that humanity will not survive past the year 2100.

Maybe what we need to do is to create a website for true Trek fans, and have them contribute their (none JJ Abrams)fictions, Foundry missions, pics and Trek related media? (STO Veterans) might be a good name..

Well I dumped ARC from my computer. I still have access to the original launcher though, which I believe that I can install using the original launcher instillation download, or one of the many copies the original game disk (I have at least 5 different game disks from back before free to play when it was actually cheaper to buy a $10 retail copy of the game with 30 day game trial than to pay the $15 subscription fee). So hopefully I'm set now.

Im still using my backup cryptic folder I saved on a jump drive, keep it updated on one every time there is a patch, just in case.  Also do a search in your cookies files for anything with "ARC" on them, and delete them too. Some ad ware can get past security since they bypassed the the check when you ok'd the machine to initially run it, so reset your security to maximum settings then save. Then run a scan to check for mal/ad/spy ware and vulnerabilities in all files and folders, before putting your settings back to normal. Hackers and programmers are a tricky lot!

A sound argument, I'm new to sto and know little about this cryptic to ARC deal. But it looks like another case of what is all to common in the gaming world.

As an aside have read all of your temporal ambassador story, very engaging and well paced. Most enjoyable, up late reading three instalments in a row each night till I was done! :L

Its a shame its happening to STO, the game itself is put together with more options and liberties then most. It is the best all around mmo ive seen to date. Even the FOundry setup is more then most companys are willing to offer, freedom to create your own RP/Fictions for others to play. That itself can offer limitless possibilities just from allowing players to contribute from their own imaginations.

Im glad you like my fiction, CatStar is my main RP toon for STO, I had fun telling his tale and sharing his personality with my viewers. =^.^=
